Mobile App Tax & Mileage

Smart Miles

Your mileage log, on autopilot.

Smart Miles app preview

Overview

Smart Miles is an automatic mileage tracking app for people who drive for work. It detects when a drive starts, records the route in the background using GPS and motion sensors, and produces an accurate, road-snapped log of every trip. At tax time, users export an audit-ready CSV with every field the IRS expects — date, start and end address, business purpose, miles driven, and deduction value — without ever opening a spreadsheet.

The product is designed to replace the manual mileage logbook entirely. Drivers spend zero minutes logging trips; classification is handled by a layered system that learns from the user's recurring routes and weekly schedule. The result is contemporaneous, IRS-substantiable records produced as a byproduct of just driving.

How It Works

  1. Drive. The app detects when a trip begins using the device's motion sensors, then records the route with GPS precision — running silently in the background even when the app is closed.
  2. Classify. Trips are auto-classified using three layers: frequent trip rules (recurring routes), work hours (per-day schedule), and a swipe gesture (left for Personal, right for Business) for everything else.
  3. Deduct. Each trip carries a date, start and end address, distance, purpose, and deduction value. At tax time, exports produce a CSV with every IRS-required field.

Pricing

Unlike some competitors, Smart Miles does not gate exports behind a premium plan and does not delete unclassified trips.
